Election of Vice-President

Prof. Dr. Rainer Neumann is new Vice-President at HKA

The computer science professor was unanimously elected to the position of Vice-President for Academic Affairs at yesterday's Senate meeting

April 17, 2024

At its meeting on Tuesday, 16 April, 2024, the Senate of Karlsruhe University of Applied Sciences (HKA) unanimously elected Prof. Dr. Rainer Neumann as the new Vice-President for Academic Affairs. The former Vice-Dean of the Faculty of Computer Science & Business Information Systems and Professor of Design and Development of Innovative Systems will take up the position on May 1, 2024. The term of office is four years. He succeeds Prof. Dr. Angelika Altmann-Dieses, who moved to Mannheim University of Applied Sciences as President in the winter semester 2023/24. After Prof. Dr. Rose Marie Beck took office as President of HKA in March 2024, the first of two vacant Vice-President positions has now been filled with Rainer Neumann.

Professor Rainer Neumann thanked the election committee for the trust they had placed in him: "I am delighted to be able to represent and help shape the university in my new role as Vice-President. We are currently facing major challenges as a society and, of course, as a university in connection with current technologies and their use. Artificial intelligence is not only changing the world of work, but of course also the way we live and teach together. Cyber security has now become a critical issue for companies and organizations, as has sustainability.”

Rainer Neumann studied computer science at the former University of Karlsruhe (now KIT) from 1990. In 2000 he completed his doctorate in the field of software development. After working briefly as a consultant in the banking IT environment, he held various positions at PTV Planung Transport Verkehr GmbH in Karlsruhe, where he became Vice-President for Software Development and Data Preparation. Since 2010, he has been a professor at the HKA with a focus on "Modeling of IT Systems" and "Development of Innovative Systems". In 2014, he took on the role of Director of Studies for the Master's degree in Information Systems and became a member of the Faculty Council. Since 2018 he has also served as HKA's Information Security Officer. Dr. Neumann is a member of the Executive Committee of the Association of Karlsruhe Software Engineers (VKSI) and is involved in school cooperation at HKA.
